Origins
The “Festa del Covo” of Campocavallo dates back to the 1930s, when the economy, customs and traditions were all of peasant origin. The region, in fact, has a great rural history, which, although often forgotten, in time has become a real civilization: the peasant civilization of the Marche region.
First held in 1939, the feast is one of the most authentic testimonies of this civilization, one of the last expressions of the creativity, knowledge and ability of local people to produce, innovate and enhance what nature has to offer.
Its origins can be found in the popular religiousness of the Marche region, since the feast was born to honor the miraculous events of Our Lady of Sorrows of Campocavallo, who made her presence felt through an icon that can still be found in the Sanctuary of Campocavallo.
