How it is built

The construction of the Covo begins with a first phase dedicated to technical and research aspects which includes inspections on the site where the sanctuary or the subject matter to be reproduced is located, preparation of the drawings and technical documents to ensure the most precise measurements possible and research of photographic documentation of the subject as a whole and its details. In fact, the reproduction is made to scale and must always be faithful to even the smallest construction detail.

Once the first phase is completed, the construction of the structure begins. The work is entrusted to skilled blacksmiths, who build the iron template which is then passed on to the wood experts, who cover it completely with wood. Finally, the structure is entirely covered with ears of wheat.

The selection of the wheat to be used is of great importance. No mistakes can be made in terms of quantity or quality. The wheat is chosen directly in the fields and particular qualities, such as for example the blue colored wheat, which is obtained from sophisticated cultivation techniques, is produced directly by the Committee of the feast in high mountain terrain.

The Maestri del Covo skilfully combine the different qualities of wheat to obtain particular color effects and arrange the ears and braids of wheat so as to create suggestive decorative elements.
